India Plans Safeguard Duty on Steel Imports Amid Chinese Influx
Article

India is considering imposing up to a 15% safeguard duty on steel imports to counter the surge of cheaper Chinese steel flooding the market. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies is concluding its investigation, and the Commerce Ministry will decide on the implementation soon. This move aims to protect domestic steel producers from unfair competition and maintain the industry’s viability. The decision comes amid broader concerns about trade imbalances and the need to support local manufacturing sectors.
